note: the Intel HD Graphics is not a graphics card to speak but a GPU integrated ( IGP , ‘Integrated Graphics Processor’) to the central processor ( CPU ). To facilitate the understanding of the article, I would talk about graphics card but know that it is indeed an integrated GPU 😉

the error message that appears when you try to update the driver for your Intel HD Graphics graphics card varies according to the installation method. If you try to update the driver from the software Intel Driver Update Utility , you will get the error message:

a custom of the manufacturer of the computer it is installed on your computer. Intel drivers update utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the custom driver from the manufacturer of the computer may cause technical problems.

If you try to update the driver from the Setup of Intel , you will get the error message:

before start us, let’s first check if a new version of the driver for our Intel HD Graphics graphics card is actually available !

identify the version number of the video driver Intel currently installed

open Device Manager via the Windows 10 quick link menu (keys Windows + X ).

right click on the device Intel HD Graphics and click on properties.

open the driver tab and identify the driver installed version.

in the screenshot above, the version number currently installed Intel graphic driver is the 4550 . You can also find the driver date to judge the “freshness” of the pilot. Here, the driver date of 11 November 2016 (at the time I write these lines, we are April 19, 2017). The driver installed is not Methuselah, but obviously, an update should be available 🙂

to check if a driver update is available for your graphics Intel HD Graphics, go to the download for graphics drivers from Intel page . in the screenshot above, the Intel graphics driver is available in version 4627 and date of March 23, 2017. A later version that is installed on our machine that date when even 6 months !

manually install the latest version of the Intel generic graphics driver

to start, download archive containing the latest version of the Intel generic graphics driver. Turn on the download for graphics drivers from Intel page , select the generation of Intel processors corresponding to the processor of your computer and then click on the link driver Intel for Windows in line with the latest version of the Intel graphics driver.

in the left column, click on the button to download the .zip archive of the driver for your Intel HD Graphics, not the .exe executable.

once the archive downloaded, unzip and memorize the location where the installation files were extracted.

open Device Manager, right click on the device Intel HD Graphics and select update the driver .

select browse my computer for driver software .

select then choose from a list of drivers available on my computer .

in the window that appears, we see the together drivers installed in Windows for our Intel HD Graphics graphics card. Click the disk button

click travel .

go to the location where you have unpacked the archive of the driver for your Intel HD Graphics and select the file igdlh64. INF in the folder Graphics .

click OK .

our driver is ready to be installed. Click the button next .

and here! The latest version of the Intel generic graphics driver for been installed on our PC 🙂

will still check! In the Device Manager, double-click the device Intel HD Graphics and go to the driver tab.
