in a study on the analysis of 9000 websites hacked, Sucuri, a company specializing in computer security, unveiled that nearly 32% of the infected sites were for reasons of SPAM SEO ! Although Google officially strongly penalize Black Hat SEO practices, these are always very popular with webmasters targeting lucrative queries and so very spammees (ex: viagra, casino, fakes, porn…).
representing about 20% of the infections in 2014, sites hacked for SEO reasons rate for now reached the 32% (figures for Q1 2016).
in practice, websites hacked for SEO reasons include infections posing in different forms as:
- the injection of content and links that redirect users to external sites
- injection of web pages directly on the site hacked with the addition of pharmaceuticals or counterfeit that redirect to external sites
- redirecting of surfers to pages hacked due to infection of the .htaccess file
