Clonezilla offer two methods of cloning:
- cloning disk/partition to image or image to disk/partition : allows you to create the disk image to a hard/SSD drive or restore a previously created on a SSD hard disk image.
- cloning disk to disk or partition to partition : allows you to clone a hard/SSD drive SSD/hard disk ‘on the fly’.
the purpose of this tutorial is to restore a disc on a hard/SSD drive image, we select device-image (disque/partition vers/depuis image) .
directory of images disks
we now need to select the type of device on the picture disc that we want to restore : either on a local device (hard drive, USB key,…) or a remote (SSD, SAMBA) server…. In most cases, your disk image is located on a external hard drive, a USB key or a partition to another disk , a local device so. Choose so local_dev .
If you want to restore a disk image that is located on a USB device , time plug! Insert the device (USB stick, external hard drive), wait about 5 seconds and then press entry. If the disk image is on another location (partition to a local disk for example), simply press entry.
Clonezilla list then all records it found on your machine. In the screenshot below, Clonezilla detects two drives:
- disc VBOX_HARDDISK (1) (on which we want to restore the disk image);
- external hard drive USB My_Passport_0B37 (2) (which is on our disk image).
If your storage device does not appear, wait a few seconds time for Clonezilla to detect. Once all your disks detected, press simultaneously the keys Ctrl + C to exit the window.
now, choose the device on the disk image that you want to restore . In the example below, I select my USB external hard drive: sdb1 / WD My Passport .
then select directory in the system image. To change the location, select the file that you are interested in by pressing enter ( currently selected directory name should then change).
once the directory found, press the key tab (↹) and select Done . In the screenshot below, my 2017-03-20-16-img-ancien-disque-dur disk image (it’s actually a folder) is located at the root of the external hard drive ( / ). Choose the directory that contains the disk image and not the image disk itself.
Finally, press entry to disk image restore on our hard/SSD drive.
