They are limited to 5MP and can produce a video streams up to 1080 at 30 frames per second. the same scene this time with the Raspberry black official (Sony IMX219 sensor) camera. The picture is more contrasted and detailed because of the 8MP sensor. The resulting image is 3280 × 2464 pixels.

night outdoor tests

now for the serious stuff and see what we can expect at night. Let’s start with the OV5647 with additional lighting. We can distinguish the bushes (located about 15 meters) and the hedge (about 30 meters). The image contains a lot of noise. Remains to be seen if the detection of movement (for example with Motion) will be functional.

now, the turn to the v2.1 black camera that does not have a light. You might expect, we can’t see anything on the image produced.

a little disappointed with the results (though expected), I realized a try indoors this time with the OV5647 camera equipped with LED lighting. The result is surprising. We understand the interest to remove the IR filter. The image is really well suited for night surveillance video use. Missing just a little sharpness setting.

however without lighting additional, unnecessary to make the first trial run with the Raspberry v2.1 camera. Stay tuned with additional lighting.
